Glaciers: Instruction and field trip
Geology 200  section 004  1 credit

Friday 6 October 2006, 1500-1700        Class meets in Cramer 69 for lecture on glaciers

Saturday 7 October 2006, 0830-1830    Field study departs Cramer Hall for Eliot Glacier, Mt. Hood.

The field trip will start at Cloud Cap on Mt. Hood's north side.  A 15 minute uphill trail walk will bring us to an overlook of the glacier from which we will start our exploration of the glacier and surrounding environment.  The day will be spent on trails and on uneven terrain in open country.

Post field trip assignment:  Each student will turn in a 5-10 page paper based on some observations they made of a glacier feature of interest.  For example, if the moraines are of interest, write about moraines.  If you observe how the water flows from under the glacier and you are interested in that, then write about it.  Please see the format for term papers here.

Paper due: 31 October 2006

Required: Attendance in the class, the field trip,
and the 5-10 page paper.
